Dell has bought storage specialist EMC for $67 billion (59 billion euros). This is the largest corporate purchase in IT history.

Dell wants to buy EMC. If it succeeds, two IT giants will merge. It can't be a takeover in the traditional sense; both companies have too much weight and too many legacy burdens. It may make sense strategically, but it's extremely risky operationally.

EMC has purchased Virtustream. The cloud software provider is to operate as an independent managed cloud services company within EMC's federation of EMC Information Infrastructure, VCE, VMware, Pivotal and RSA.
