SAP Solution: Monitoring

SAP CEO Christian Klein’s statement at the DSAG Annual Congress 2023 in Bremen proves that he wants “cloud only”; however, he has no concept behind it. Because “cloud only” does not mean that everyone is in the cloud; rather it means that there is only one version of it.
The lack of adequate IT staff will continue to preoccupy the SAP community for some time to come. Many successful SAP partners are currently addressing the issue of automation, monitoring and observability. At the SAP Competence Center Summit on June 1 and 2 in Salzburg, numerous companies will present their solutions for SAP Basis automation.
IT and SAP managers must ensure that SAP systems and databases run around the clock without problems and failures and that the company's business processes are safeguarded. Monitoring the systems incurs costs and ties up personnel resources.
The job scheduling and monitoring function dates back to the mainframe era when data centers consisted of IBM System/370, compatible machines or even Siemens BS2000 computers.
Some existing SAP customers have already been able to switch to Hana and are in the middle of the changeover or conversion to S/4. Now that the project phases have been completed and the systems have been put into operation, it is up to the SAP Basis team to operate them.
SAP systems are at the heart of IT in most companies. Permanent monitoring of transactions and applications as protection is therefore essential.
If you want to protect your SAP data from misuse, you also have to restrict access rights for SAP Basis administrators. Security tests at customers' sites reveal serious weaknesses in this area.
For all CIOs, IT managers and SAP executives, i.e. for the readers of this magazine, communication is one of the most important success factors in their work. Time and again, they have to explain necessary changes convincingly and win over employees for important projects.
Time and again, I see IT managers associate Solution Manager exclusively with technology when it comes to monitoring. It goes without saying that SolMan has the edge over other tools in this area. It can shine in this domain and relieve SAP Basis departments in particular with automatic monitoring.

Working on the SAP basis is crucial for successful S/4 conversion.

This gives the Competence Center strategic importance for existing SAP customers. Regardless of the S/4 Hana operating model, topics such as Automation, Monitoring, Security, Application Lifecycle Management and Data Management the basis for S/4 operations.

For the second time, E3 magazine is organizing a summit for the SAP community in Salzburg to provide comprehensive information on all aspects of S/4 Hana groundwork.
