Until now, the effort required to update archived BW data was very high, because so-called stragglers could not be posted directly to nearline storage. This kept many BW users from archiving data.

SAP has developed the nearline solution SAP NLS for BW specifically for use under Hana, which uses the analytical database SAP IQ. To access the nearline database, it uses SAP's own database driver ODBC.
