Frankfurt am Main has been setting benchmarks in medical care for over 100 years. Founded in 1914, the university and the medical faculty are now among the avant-garde, also when it comes to digitization (Dig. UKF). In this context, UKF (Frankfurt University Hospital) relies on SAP and Snap Healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, the healthcare facility with 33 specialist clinics and 23 clinical institutes adopted new ordering software for pharmacy, nursing, and materials management (SAP-APM) into the productive system. The ward requisition management tool for materials and medications provides effective process support for all interdepartmental material flows and ensures comprehensive control of all material movements across the entire hospital operation in SAP.<\/p>

For the more than 7,500 employees, this also eliminates the previously required handwritten documentation of their work. The UKF is the first hospital in Germany to handle the requirements in the wards via interfaces implemented with SAP Fiori, which are fully integrated into the existing SAP system. \"The new system is easy and convenient to use,\" sums up overall project manager Barbara Dolff from Klinik-apotheke with satisfaction. \"Thanks to the operating elements familiar from Internet search engines, we have little training effort and can design work processes simply, securely and efficiently.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on the APM module, the UKF has integrated further supplementary modules in recent months and made them productive in all wards, clinics and institutes. Among the useful helpers are, for example, the digital documentation of anesthetics, a package tracking function that requires legally compliant delivery and handover processes because of the transported drugs, chemicals and other medical supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also extremely helpful from a business perspective is Snap Healthcare's recently implemented unit cost capture. This feature allows for accurate documentation and automated replenishment (including consignment supplies) with a single scan. Also, the ability to minimize and offload the recording effort for walk-throughs by caregivers to supply assistants is an opportunity to reduce the burden on caregivers. In this way, the UKF is following the top priority of the hospital since its founding: the best possible care for patients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not least thanks to the right tools, as Sven-Patrick Schymik, project manager in the Medical Information Systems and Digitization staff unit, sums it up: \"The Digital University Hospital Frankfurt is a challenging project in all its facets at a very challenging time. But with SAP-APM, we were able to lay an extremely solid foundation for the digital transformation of the UKF and sustainably secure our digital future viability.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
